The Systems Approach

Design is a process that requires planning

Advantages

  • Keeps the project organized
  • Yields better results through improved customer satisfaction 
Step 1- Collect Info
Interview the client
  • Target Audience? (Age, gender, location)
  • The goal (To sell, entertain, educate)
  • Technical requirements (Flyer, bussiness card, webpage, advertisement)
  • Page size
  • Budget
  • Deadlines
Step 2- Develop the Plan
  • A Written Proposal
  • A Price Quote
  • A Customer Contract
  • The Development of a Design Team
  • A Detailed Action Plan 
Step 3- Brainstorm
  • Find inspiration in books, people, magazines, museums and unwinding (Talking, walks, having fun, etc.)
  • Research ideas
  • Sketch out ideas 
Step 4- Experiment
  • Keeping the original goal in mind but expirimenting with a few diferrent design options
  • Experiment with fonts, color schemes, graphics, etc.  
Step 5- Proofread
  • Have others proofread your work after you do
  • No client will want a product with spelling or grammar errors
Step 6- Revise
  • Collaborate with the client for feedback
  • Revise the design over and over again until the client is satisfied
